Understanding the Problem
Motorhome taps are usually connected to the vehicle’s 12-volt water pump system, which pushes water through the pipes when the tap is turned on. Many taps also include small electrical switches (microswitches) that activate the pump when you lift the handle.
Over time, components can loosen, wear out, or develop leaks, which can cause problems such as dripping, poor water flow, or the pump not activating correctly.
Inspecting the Tap
In the video we take a closer look at the tap to identify the issue. This involves checking:
- The tap body and fittings
- The connections underneath the sink
- Any loose parts or worn seals
- The pipe connections feeding the tap
Often the problem is something relatively small, such as a loose fitting or worn component.
Carrying Out the Fix
Once the problem is identified, the repair is usually straightforward. The process typically involves:
- Turning off the water supply or pump
- Accessing the underside of the tap
- Tightening or adjusting the fittings
- Reassembling the tap and checking the connections
- Turning the pump back on to test the system
In many cases, these small fixes can save you from replacing the entire tap.
