The Oldest Motorhome Sold AT Auction
The oldest known motor-caravan, a 1914 Ford T Model custom-fitted onto a Baico chassis, has been put up for sale at auction. Selling for around 63K it is a stunning vehicle with an age-defying interior.
In 1914, the unique vehicle was constructed for a member of the Bentall family, who were the founders of a British department store chain. It has an all-timber body, good insulation, and a polished pine flooring. There is a comfortable looking leather drivers seat which can be turned around for extra seating in the rear.
There are four berths in the rear, with a wood-burning cast-iron stove behind the cab for heating and cooking food. There’s ample storage in the wooden welsh-style dresser.
Its body was created by Dunton of Reading, whose history began in the horse-drawn carriage era. There’s a mail slot near the door, slatted windows, and doors.
